I'm from Jahanabad, a small district in Bihar. Middle-class family — my father was in the Army. In Class 6, I got into Sainik School. Not because we were chasing something big — my parents wanted world-class education for me, but we weren't financially well-off enough to afford it on our own. Sainik School solved both.

My parents always wanted me to do engineering. They were scared of Merchant Navy — too unconventional, too uncertain. But I've always loved adventure — trying new things, looking at things from a different angle. There was a point I had zero sponsorships. Then, almost overnight, I had 4 sponsorships in hand — and I still couldn't clear a single graduation-level entrance exam. Not because I didn't know the subject. I just wasn't getting the right kick — the right push, the right guidance — to get across the line.

While I was doing my Second Mate, I started MarineGuru in 2018 — because I wanted to be unconventional and go dominate the exact space where I'd struggled. Still in Merchant Navy, I did an MBA in Marketing — to understand how the corporate world worked, how people on land think. I'd also loved singing and acting, gave audition after audition after Class 12 — and slowly figured out that wasn't my path either.

In 2021, during COVID, Sailors Factory started as one closed batch — from a single Quora answer to a mechanical engineering student who asked, "Sir, I want to join Merchant Navy." That's how it began.

Since then I've met hundreds of aspirants, and most of them — 9 out of 10 — carry the same pattern I did. Middle-class. Wanting to break the chain. Dreaming big. Curious, restless, a bit of a trend-setter. That's why we say it, bro — we've been exactly where you are right now. मैं बिहार के जहानाबाद जिले से हूँ — एक छोटी सी जगह। मिडिल क्लास फैमिली, पिताजी आर्मी में थे। क्लास 6 में सैनिक स्कूल में एडमिशन हुआ। कोई बड़ा सपना नहीं था — मेरे parents मुझे world-class education देना चाहते थे, लेकिन financially utne achhe bhi nhi the कि खुद अफोर्ड कर पाते। सैनिक स्कूल ने दोनों problem solve कर दी।

मेरे parents हमेशा चाहते थे कि मैं engineering करूँ। उन्हें Merchant Navy से डर लगता था — बहुत unconventional, बहुत uncertain। लेकिन मुझे हमेशा से adventure पसंद था — नई चीज़ें try करना, चीज़ों को अलग angle से देखना। एक समय था जब मेरे पास ज़ीरो sponsorship थे। फिर लगभग रातों-रात मेरे हाथ में 4 sponsorships आ गए — और मैं फिर भी graduation-level की एक भी entrance exam clear नहीं कर पाया। subject नहीं आता था इसलिए नहीं — बस सही kick नहीं मिल रही थी, सही push और सही guidance नहीं मिल रही थी लाइन पार करने के लिए।

जब मैं Second Mate कर रहा था, तब 2018 में MarineGuru शुरू किया — क्योंकि मैं unconventional बनना चाहता था और उसी जगह dominate करना चाहता था जहाँ मैं struggle कर चुका था। Merchant Navy में रहते हुए ही Marketing में MBA किया — ये समझने के लिए कि corporate world कैसे काम करती है, land पर लोग कैसे सोचते हैं। मुझे singing और acting का भी शौक था, Class 12 के बाद ढेर सारे auditions दिए — और धीरे-धीरे समझ आया कि वो भी मेरा रास्ता नहीं था।

2021 में, COVID के दौरान, Sailors Factory एक closed batch के रूप में शुरू हुआ — एक Quora answer से, एक mechanical engineering student के उस सवाल से जिसने पूछा था, "सर, मुझे Merchant Navy join करनी है।" बस यहीं से शुरुआत हुई।

तब से मैं सैकड़ों aspirants से मिल चुका हूँ, और उनमें से ज़्यादातर — 10 में से 9 — मेरे जैसा ही pattern लेकर आते हैं। मिडिल क्लास। चेन तोड़ने की चाहत। बड़ा सपना। Curious, restless, थोड़े trend-setter। इसीलिए हम कहते हैं bro — हम बिल्कुल वहीं से आए हैं जहाँ तुम अभी हो। मेरे co-founder Yudhishthir Mohan और बाकी पूरी Sailors Factory team की भी यही कहानी है।
